Nigeria was never designed to be a country. It was something else entirely. On the 66th Anniversary of Independence we reflect on the true origin of Nigeria a forgotten history.

In this video, we trace the exact chain of events that turned a region of sovereign African kingdoms into a corporate extraction machine — renamed, repackaged, and handed to a British government for £865,000.
It starts with palm oil and a man named George Goldie. In 1870, Goldie built the United African Company in the Niger Delta, tricked chiefs into signing away exclusive trade rights, and built a monopoly. By 1884, the Berlin Conference carved up Africa between colonial powers without a single African in the room. The Kingdom of Opobo was handed to Britain. When its king tried to export his own palm oil, he was exiled — and poisoned on the journey home.
King Koko of Nembe Brass saw what was happening. He attacked the Royal Niger Company headquarters in 1895, took 60 hostages, and demanded the free trade he was promised. The British refused. He killed 40 hostages. The Royal Navy crushed him. His people were fined £500 and disarmed. King Koko died by suicide in exile in 1898.
In 1914, Lord Lugard merged the Southern and Northern Protectorates. A trading company became a country. That country was called Nigeria.
The Royal Niger Company renamed itself, was acquired by Unilever, and Unilever still operates in Nigeria today.
Palm oil became crude oil. The extraction infrastructure stayed in place. Lithium is next.
Every Nigerian deserves to know this history — and right now, most are never taught it.
This channel exists to change that.
